Hello delegates!

Let's post here our positions, thoughts and opinions on the South Ossetia War/ Independency and the Georgia-Russia conflict. This would be a great opportunity for delegates to post first impressions on the topic! If you could put a brief explanation on your position, it would be great! France will do so as well!

France

Russia would like to recall that it is seeking for the recognition of South Ossetia and Abkhazia as independence natios. The only purpose for Russia to be involved in the conflict with Gerogia is to defend the freedom of the people in these nations.

In the Georgia-South Ossetia- Russian conflict, France acts as a peacekeeper. Trying to attain agreements in between the nations and the respect towards Georgia’s territorial integrity, France, along with the European Union, is seeking peace and satisfaction in all regions. As the current president of the EU, Nicolas Sarkozy was the one responsible for passing out a plan that would lead up to a cease-fire in between Georgia and Russia. France’s only interest in the conflict is to achieve peace. France is really concerned to where this conflict might lead up if nothing is done. Measures should be taken immediately, and of course, all seeking peace and integrity in between the nations.

Thank you for the collaboration in trying to peacefully solve the conflict, although the delegate forgot to state some major fact, for example, Russia violating the Six-Point treaty and Russia invading Georgia's national sovereignty.

Germany does not have a strong position on this, but its position is to follow France...
As long as peace is maintained then Germany is Satisfied...

The French delegation would like to thank the Georgian delegation for bringing in this topic. It is true that Russia violated the Six Point Plan and has refused to take their troops out of some Georgian cities.
This news center , the UNIAN in Ukraine, says that:

"Russia, however, says it plans to maintain a strong troop presence in the breakaway regions. Moscow plans to have 3,800 troops in each Abkhazia and South Ossetia, which it recognized as independent in the wake of the conflict. Before the conflict it had 3,000 peacekeepers in Abkhazia and 500 in South Ossetia."

However, France is not here to point fingers, but to solve problems. So it would also like to recognize that:

"Speaking at a conference in Evian, France, on October 9, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev praised the EU, calling it a "responsible and pragmatic partner" for helping to resolve the conflict."

Both nations should keep in mind what they agreed upon.

Germany does not approve the steps that Russia has taken in the invasion of Georgia's territory, but Requests Georgia to maintain peace or else a much greater conflict may begin.

Germany will seek to solve the problem through negotiation since Germany respacts Georgia's national integrity.

Georgia would like to emphasize that will search for a peaceful solution for the conflict, but Russia should colaborate .

To reinforce what my wise French partners has stated previously, the situation in South Ossetia and Abkhazia and their recent conflicts with Georgia and the interference of Russia is an issue of much concern to the French delegation. France would like to reinforce its neutral and much peace-like position in this issue. The six point peace plan is just a proof of how France wishes to adress the situation with much diplomacy. France believes on the principles within territorial integrity however it does NOT ignore the right for self-determination and therefore it has encouraged peaceful talks between the regions and nations involved. France urges that the fellow European countries support France in this wish for peace. And as the mighty EU, we should step forward and enhance the problem, set an example and help the tormented regions... the European Union and NATO, should look forward for a fortunate resolution and France will be fully engaged on this search.

Reminding that Germany may have a great power, we are not imposing any threats on any countries, as though my 'Fellow German Delegate' says.

Russia what? Russia was trying to protect South Ossetias sovereignty and had to go against Georgia's attack. Russia fully recognizes Georgia's territorial integrity and tries it best to protect its people, it is fighting for its freedom and independence.

The delegate of russia should know that South Ossetia is still not world wide recognized as a nation, and that only Russia and Nicaragua has formally recognized it as independent. Therefore, Russia could not be protecting South Ossetia's sovereignty. Russia indeed united with South Osseita and Abkhazia against Georgia, however, for other reasons.

Let's all keep everyghting clear in this discussion.

The recent fight between Georgia and Russia has been of great concern to the turkish government.Turkey would like to remind that it remains neutral, and only wants peace in this conflict. Other european nations should wish the same, because nothing good comes from war,only bloodshed. Turkey would like also to point out that the principles of territorial integrity and self-determination on which the Russian-Georgian War was fought are directly relevant to the Turkey's security concern.

Turkey suggests that Russia, Georgia, South Ossetia and Abkhazia come together to cooperate and make a deal to solve this issue the best way possible.

Delegate of France, South Ossetia may not YET be an independent nation but Russia is fighting for that to happen. Russia truly believes that South Ossetia should have its sovereignty and be respected, in the other hand countries, such as Georgia, are slowing down that process. If South Osseita and Abkhazia are against Georgia it is not Russia's fault, in fact it prooves that Georgia is only generating conflict since these nations do not want Georigia's presence in their territory.

Russia would like to remind delegates that it removed its troops BEFORE the deadline set by EU, furtheremore Georgian troops killed 15 Russian peacekeeping soldiers...

Delegate of Georgia, I, as delegate representing the Czech Republic, would like you to know that you have our contry's complete support. Russia violated Georgia's national sovereignty, which is fully ilegal, and has threatened the NATO, the United Stated (indirectly) and the Czech Republic with it, due to the effects of the missile shield.

Russia has done nothing excpet for the 3 day war, it promised though that if the missle shields are implanted then Russia will prepare a strike, USA always wants to prepare against terrorist atacks, what about atacks from a country like Russia, what will happen to the rest of the world? This issue has now certainly become very interesting, hope you make it to general assembly, it will be a good discussion.

Russia is preparing for it's huge mark in the 21 st century ... The Missile Shield will be only a excuse for it.

Let me make Russia's position clear:

We do not seek isolation from other countries or conflict. However, it has to be understood that Russia will do what it feels is necessary to ensure the safety of its citizens, including those living abroad. In Georgia there are significant numbers of Russian citizens in the areas of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. These regions want independence and Russia supports their independence.

In August Georgia unnecessarily attacked South Ossetia. Ordinary Russian citizens living in this area claimed that tanks fired directly into apartment buildings and fired upon unarmed citizens simply trying to flee the senseless attack by the Georgian army. If you do not believe them, a resent research by the international Human Rights Watch supports the claim that indiscriminate use of forced was practiced by the Georgian military which, by the way, is a violation of the Geneva Conventions and is considered a war crime. Even British Foreign Secretary David Miliband called the attack on South Ossetia "reckless" and admitted to the possibility of Georgian war crimes.

Georgia's version of events is inconsistent. At first they said they were responding to increasing attacks on its own villages by the South Ossetia militia. Later they said they were in fact responding to an earlier Russian invasion. So they basically contradict themselves.

So all of you condem our invasion of Georgia's sovereignty. But what about the dignity of innocent citizens attacked by Georgia's military? In our opinion, in this case the peace and dignity of the innocent is more important than sovereigny, to tell you the truth.

it is with greatest enthusiasm that the Georgian Delegate who will be representing Georgia in the SC announces that TOMORROW IS THE DAY WE FIND SOLUTIONS TO UNRESOLVED PROBLEMS! Georgia will be able to prove how South Ossetia and Abkhazia are undeniably part of Georgian territory, sovereignty and integrity. The Georgian Delegate wishes all of you the best and may the not only plausible but most creative and fruitful solutions be found in these meetings!
