France is very concerned with the on-going political crisis in Zimbabwe and for this reasons it is willing to take necessary measures to enhance the situation. However, based on the previous posts, France will have to agree with USA delegation on the fact that sanctions should be held until the government show more concrete evidence that a permanent solution is being held. France indeed is very optimistic with the power sharing deal signed by the two parties in September, however it seems that such agreement has been failing to work as the opposition parties, Zanu-PF ad the MDC, have been continually fighting over the ministries. According to a recent report, the dispute between the ministries is leading to the treaty’s failure. For this reason, France believes that the situation is not yet resolved. Until the government shows complete aptitude to rule the failed state, France and the EU will continue with the choice of sanctions. France takes back what the US delegate has previously stated, removing the sanctions before the "right time" will only risk worsening the crisis since the political pressure would cease. France totally supports and encourages a democratic election and hopes that it is held ASAP. But until there, we believe that sanctions will avoid the government of taking more radical and non-diplomatic measures.
Merci.
