Food Crisis in Africa Empty
PostSubject: Food Crisis in Africa   Food Crisis in Africa Icon_minitimeTue Nov 11, 2008 3:01 pm

About thirty-five thousand people in Africa are in need of food aid.
the basic reason is lack of rain:

Most part of the population around Africa, live in rural areas, where many are self-sufficient (subsistence) farmers. Due to the lack of a proper irrigation system they become dependable on the rain. So, no rain means, no food, which means starvation of millions.

Everyday, food aid convoys are being sent to ease the hunger of these people, but food aid is only a temporary solution, more must be done in order to combat this issue.

Plz comment.

Salam fellow delegates of Somalia!
Afghanistan fully supports the aiding to the African countries. The delegate of Afghanistan believed that Somalia should be working with Chad, since both topics are related to the lack of water in the region. The most cost-effective and common is water conservation but would that be hard to accomplish in the region? What does the delegate of Somalia think about desalination and cloud seeding? If these measures are not feasible, what about recycling water? What is the delegate proposing in Somalia’s resolution? إله يبارك أنت

Delegate of Somalia,

Chad is totally in favor of your resolution, you have our support.

The UN World Food Programme says it urgently needs $400m (£200m) to prevent starvation in the east African region.

Ethiopia is worst hit, with 10 million people - some 12% of the population - in need of extra food supplies.

Somalia, Eritrea and Djibouti are also affected, along with northern parts of Kenya and Uganda.

In Somalia, 2.6m people were in need of food aid at the start of this year.

Ethiopia: 4.6m need emergency food support. Another 5.7m need extra food or cash
Somalia: 2.6m facing acute food shortages - could rise to 3.5m by end of 2008
Kenya: 1.2m need urgent food supplies
Uganda: 707,000 in dire need of food
Djibouti: 80,000 facing acute food shortages

Salam African delegates!
The delegate of Afghanistan truly believes that the measures that should be taken to solve the food crisis in Africa should include investment in the African agriculture and the rural areas, destroy the trade barriers by investing and taking advantage of any trading opportunity and put effort into reducing malnutrition among mothers and children so that the generational cycle of deprived nutrition and poverty is broken. Furthermore, improving and expanding basic education and strengthening the African Union and the other regional bodies in order to make them take responsibility for the continent’s peace and security. إله يبارك أنت
